A financial corporate photography client requested me to cover an investor day event. However it was a refreshing change to be asked to cover the with a totally self -directed approach. It reminded me so much of the old day’s when I used to work just for newspapers and magazines especially in London. The great thing is that these type of assignments exist in the world of corporate photography. Although this is nothing new, this assignment reminded me that it is up to the photographer to take the initiative more and more these days and encourage more of a documentary style approach for corporate clients. Clients will not always know exactly what works until they are presented with a set of images that are outside the brief and then they realise what a great choice they have from the standard brief that follows such a routine. Sure you have to cover certain set up shots that are inevitable, but getting something different is the key to keeping corporate photography alive and fresh.
