The Sydney Bushfires in 2013 led to a widespread smoke haze throughout the city. The smoke caused poor air quality and reduced visibility.
However one day it worked to my advantage, creating orange-reddish-coloured clouds.
The presence of smoke and particles in the air from bushfires can create a haze that blankets the sky, affecting visibility and atmospheric conditions. This haze can give the clouds a unique orange or reddish tint, especially during sunrise or sunset when the sunlight passes through a longer path within the atmosphere.
I anticipated something was about to happen as I noticed this orange glow coming over from the Sydney CBD area.
Quickly I grabbed my cameras from home and drove up to Christison Park.
I wanted to capture the blanket of smoke that descended over the Macquarie Lighthouse creating this orange-reddish tint.
Straight away after capturing this image, I knew that it was a rare moment.
The Macquarie Lighthouse is an iconic landmark situated on the southeastern tip of South Head, overlooking the entrance of Sydney Harbour.
It holds the distinction of being Australia’s oldest lighthouse and is of historical significance.
