So pleased I subscribe to the Fabrik Projects email list as I discovered a great worldwide competition that I entered at the last minute.
My photo of the Wynyard Walk Tunnel Canopy was recently selected amongst 20 Finalists around the world for a competition “ Soul of Your City”.
The idea behind the competition was to capture the essence of urban life, showcasing the diverse spirit of cities across the globe.
When I entered the competition I paid particular attention to the guidelines below which stated:-
“We’re seeking original, captivating images that tell a story beyond the familiar tourist attractions.
Dive into the unseen layers of your city — the hidden corners, local culture, and unique architecture that define its character. Whether it’s the rugged beauty of gritty alleyways, the charm of mom-and-pop shops, or aged buildings, we want to see it all through your lens.
This isn’t just another competition; it’s a celebration of diversity, creativity, and the unique stories that only your city can tell. Capture the morning mist, the neon-lit nights, bustling markets, or serene moments that paint a true portrait of your city.”

It was also exciting that the Grand Prize winner and 20 Finalists’ work was recently showcased at the LA Art Show.
I was captivated by the magnificent design of the Wynard Walk Tunnel Canopy, adorned with its striking glass roof and intricate geometric patterns.
The commuters’ silhouettes moving toward the escalators added a sense of scale against the expansive glass canopy in black and white.
Woods Bagot, in collaboration with structural engineer Taylor Thompson Whitting, masterminded the impressive architecture of the Wynyard Walk Canopy in Sydney.
Great photo Paul.
